How do you pick a gift for someone you don’t know well?
Synexus wanted to mark every employee birthday and work anniversary with a thoughtful gift. The hard part was the gift itself. As Sabrina Snowden, Chief of Staff, puts it, the challenge was “finding something personal and meaningful for people you may not know well enough to shop for individually.”
With a team spread across the country, that question came back for every person on every date. Each gift also had to be chosen, packed, and shipped by hand, and Sabrina found it “time-consuming to select and coordinate gifts for each employee.”
Let each person choose, and ship it home
Thankscrate hands the gift question to the person being celebrated. On their birthday or work anniversary, each employee picks a gift from a selection curated for the occasion, and it ships straight to their home with a personal note from leadership. Nobody at Synexus has to guess what someone would like, and nobody has to pack or mail anything.
Starting from a spreadsheet, not a payroll system
Synexus added its team from a spreadsheet upload. A payroll connection is optional, and the program runs the same without one.
Two occasions are on for everyone enrolled, birthdays and work anniversaries, each with its own gift tier. Milestone anniversaries step up to a larger tier, so recognition grows with tenure. On-demand gifts are ready for the moments that don’t fall on a calendar.
What happens on an employee’s birthday
Thankscrate tracks every date and reminds the team when a personal message is due, so no milestone depends on someone’s memory. On the day, the employee gets a note from leadership and an invitation to choose their gift. Once they choose, it ships to their home, and Synexus pays for the gift they picked, within the budget set for the occasion.
Sabrina says employees “have been pleasantly surprised by the consistent recognition and enjoy selecting a gift that matches their personal preferences.”
What changed for Synexus
Recognition at Synexus is now “much more consistent and manageable,” Sabrina says, with “an equitable experience for everyone.” The gift is personal because the person picked it, and the time that went into choosing, packing, and shipping each one goes back to the team. In her words, “The feedback has been very positive.”
“Because employees choose their own gift from a curated selection, we know they're receiving something they'll genuinely enjoy and appreciate while reinforcing a culture of appreciation across the team.”
